Streaming service Netflix announced at the publication of its quarterly figures that the turnover from international subscribers is now the same as in the US. The company says that more new members than expected were added in the past quarter.

The company writes that a total of 7.4 million new customers have been added during the first quarter of 2018. This would result in a record for the first quarter. Of the new subscribers, just under 2 million come from the US, while almost 5.5 million customers have been added internationally. The number of international members has been growing for a long time stronger than the number in the US. The global number of Netflix subscribers now amounts to 125 million, with approximately 55 percent of the members belonging to the international segment.

The expectation for the past quarter was an accretion of 6.35 million customers and the forecast for the coming quarter is slightly lower at 6.2 million. The company notes that its international productions are also being watched outside the home country, for example the Spanish-language series La Casa de Papel is the most-watched non-English-language series on Netflix. As announced earlier, the company wants to invest between 7.5 and 8 billion dollars this year in new content.

Netflix sales in the past quarter amounted to 3.7 billion dollars, which is 40 percent higher than the year before. The net profit was 290 million dollars.
