A Bug’s Life: A first MMOG-game for the Google Glass
In the development received massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) for digital points Google . In the story, the players turn into ants and perform certain tasks, not looking at it from everyday reality.
The game is called Swarm! (“Roy!”). Its development involved Daniel Estrada, a professor of philosophy at the University of Illinois, and Jonathan Lauhid from Columbia University. The game begins in the morning when the participants leave the threshold of his house, wearing Google Glass.
The GPS data are used to track the location of the players during the performance of daily activities. information about the trails that run participants is applied to the card.
The idea of the game is not to follow people and look at how they spend their day, they spend most of their time and how the activity of each of them intersects with that of other players.
Swarm! – It’s more than just a game. This is a radical experiment in self-organization – said Estrada.
While traveling on the trails, you accumulate virtual resources. While in certain locations or adding photos to the trails, you get bonuses. Over time, the trail disappeared from the map. To avoid this, for them to walk regularly. Forbidden to cross paths opponent – it can cost you a day’s work.
Gathering resources is carried out by documenting the various attractions. For each object that you managed to capture on camera, you get a virtual food.
The game itself is an open source of information. Giving players the data can later be used to develop a hiking trail or optimization of the public transport.
The game allows you to create independent teams, “ants”, working together on the implementation of a common goal.
Not one ant say to another what to do and where to go. Despite this, they manage to organize collective action and achieve impressive results. Swarm is a simulator of formic life, which is designed to help people understand how it works – says Lauhid.
A working prototype of the game is scheduled to release by the end of this year. For more information about the game can be found on Glass-apps.org .
