A NEW ULTRA-LIGHT AND ULTRA-STRONG MATERIAL

Researchers from the University of California at Los Angeles have published scientific paper in the journal Nature, which describe the new material, which has the highest strength to weight ratio compared to all ever produced materials.

This alloy was obtained by alloying magnesium with silicon carbide nanofibres that turned a light flexible metal in a hard, strong material.

The research team says that the production of the new material can be easily scaled, and the material can be used in the aerospace industry. Turning malleable metal in the material is lighter and stronger than titanium really opens up opportunities in building spaceships. The new material is also easily tolerates low temperatures – is another factor that can make a novelty basic material for the construction of rockets of the future.
