Acer works on autonomous car with Taiwanese manufacturer

Acer has presented a concept car with a Taiwanese partner that can drive independently. Acer supplies the necessary software, including systems with lidar, ultrasonic signals and digital map data.

The self-driving car was presented together with the company Yulon Motor, a Taiwanese car manufacturer, reports Digitimes. It concerns the Luxgen S3 EV +, which according to the two companies ‘quasi-level 4’ must be able to operate independently. In the classification of self-driving cars, level 4 is the level at which users no longer have to pay attention to traffic, because the car can move completely independently in traffic. What Acer and Yulon Motor mean by ‘quasi-level 4’ is not entirely clear.

Acer supplies various software systems to allow the car to operate independently. For example, Lidar and ultrasound are used to determine the obstacles in the environment. There is also image recognition on board and there are digital map data. Artificial intelligence makes decisions from all data.

For the time being, it is a concept car, so there is still a lot of development needed before the car will be commercially available. Acer and Yulon Motor also have not published anything about the market introduction.
