Alienware Steam Machine Review – Between console and PC gaming
The Alienware Steam Machine is a compact game system that does not look out of place next to your TV. You can get latest games at medium settings at 1080p resolution running. Dell provides with the Steam Controller, where many gamers after some practice can build for the feet. Due to the combination with steamos the system gives a real console experience. The Linux-based operating system is also a huge bummer, because you have to take as a gamer settle for a fraction of the number of major game titles on Windows, the PS4 or Xbox One is available. The alternative to stream games from a Windows machine was not working in our spotless and it is also a pity that the video card is not upgradeable. With its limited range of popular games puts this Steam Machine skimpy off Windows-game systems to the one, and the much cheaper consoles on the other side.

Great console experience
CPU and easily upgrade memory
Too few good games
Stream does not work flawlessly
Video card not to upgrade

The gaming ecosystem was long divided into two camps; on the one hand, there were the consoles and, on the other hand, the Windows-based PCs. Both have their advantages. Consoles are made for the living room and optimized for games, you do not need to do to make games run smoothly and the interface is fully designed for games: starting, slice it, controller suits and ready. Also, the PC, however, has its advantages. While developers can get everything from the hardware components of consoles, run these systems at certain moment anyway. PC rumbles on with faster processors and more powerful graphics cards. Over time, see the games are considerably better on a PC, even at lower settings. Moreover, there are genres that simply work better with a keyboard and a mouse, like RTS games, and that is where consoles are not optimized for weather.

Would it not be an idea to combine the advantages of consoles that of PCs, Valve asked years ago off. Let different manufacturers make PC-like systems on a platform that is optimized for games. As a company behind the massive Valve Steam platform is the appropriate party to do so, but the task proved more complex than expected.
In 2012 the steamos platform was announced in late December and was the Linux-based operating system mature enough for an open beta. Tweakers discussed the platform when extended. We are now two years later and only now are the first steam machines available here. The controller for the systems, the Steam Controller, we have already extensively tested felt.
