Amazon delivers packages in the American neighborhood with self-driving vehicles
Webwinkel Amazon will use small, self-driving vehicles to deliver parcels, initially as a test in a neighborhood in the US state of Washington. At first there is always a delivery person to check if things are going well.

Amazon Scout The self-propelled robot drives the speed of a walker over the sidewalk with the help of an electric motor. He stops at customers in front of the door, after which they can take out the packages, according to a video Amazon has put online. The webshop starts with six such robots with the name Scout.

Scout can drive autonomously on the sidewalk, but there will always be an Amazon deliveryman at the vehicle’s rides. The delivery via Scout is still a test and only happens during the day, when it is light. Amazon does not publish technical details of the self-driving system. The test is done in an unnamed city in Nohomisch County, an area just north of Seattle. Amazon has its headquarters there.

Amazon does not announce plans on how large scale the Scout wants to use for delivery. It is one of the many initiatives of the webshop to automate delivery. The American company is experimenting with drones, among other things.
