Amazon Echo with Alexa: First impression and video

artikel_echo Since yesterday, first interested parties get the option to purchase an Amazon echo. Amazon scales slowly. Not everyone will immediately get his invitation confirmed. For Amazon, the Amazon echo in Germany is such a story. German language, difficult language. We also know from other smart assistants who have listened to acclamation. With the first Amazon echos in Germany, Amazon is targeting users who can screw down their expectations level, or technology.

First of all, there is not much to be done, that is to come. In Germany, there are currently hardly any skills – that is to say services – integration. This can now be argued differently. Some may speak of beta software, others see it as an opportunity to actively participate in the device. Amazon has made the possibility freely available, to implement skills, to control things via the Amazon Echo. Since developers will surely seize the opportunity – make US developers so synonymous, since the echo has been longer.

But now I have already written something and perhaps I did not think about people who do not know what an Amazon echo is.

Amazon Echo is a loudspeaker with a smart assistant Alexa, which is integrated into the domestic network. Imagine this like Google Now. Instead of OK Google says “Alexa” followed by a command. Here you can ask questions like Google, which should be answered in the best case. As Google leverages its own knowledge, Alexa allows the integration of third-party services.

“Alexa, play music from the Pet Shop Boys on Spotify”. Going? Jau. You can link your Google Calendar and view and set appointments.

My first session was linking my Philips Hue lighting to the Amazon Echo. The new bridge is recommended. If the skill has been activated – this is done via the app or the web interface – then it can be started. “Alexa, turn the living room on”. Sounds odd, but is so, because my lamp group in echoes as a living room is deposited. Works well. Including dimmen and so.

Football results and next matches? Makeable. If you want to know more, add the skill “Toralarm”. If you did this, you can also check out the live scores, tested yesterday at the match of Borussia Dortmund.

Also Deutsche Bahn is at the start, but here is always the question of how useful such a skill is really. What can Deutsche Bahn do? I can ask, when train A goes to train B, also delays with it (haha, one way or another!). It is not possible to book maps or save found routes to DB Navigator. Who knows, later.

The question of usefulness: When I ask Alexa for tracks, then time passes. Make voice commands, listen to responses, and perhaps make changes. But I have no time. And no desire. I want information quickly. You certainly too. Before I lab da three minutes, I take the smartphone into my hand, find my connection out, see the price and book. Couple seconds thing. So why use Amazon echo with train integration? You see, there may be more. But maybe the solution is made for people who do not have a hand. I do not want to talk bad about bad skills, but they need to offer added value. Added value: to offer me something (information, service, service) what I have not had before – or save time.

Amazon echo does nothing new. Except that Alexa is always there. Listen Hands-free commands and answers questions. How good that you see in my video. And if you do not need a loud loudspeaker or which has: Echo Dot costs 60 euros and is then what you are looking for. Alexa without the thick sound.
