Amazon starts to stream video in HDR format




Amazon Prime is the first video streaming service that transmits images in HDR. The series of Mozart in the Jungle comes in that format without additional cost for subscribers who have a Samsung TV with HDR support.

It is initially only to the series Mozart in the Jungle and the pilot of Red Oaks to American Prime subscribers with Samsung UHDTV in HDR seen, but Amazon promises that there is more content in HDR is available for different TVs. Amazon is the first provider in content streaming HDR makes available.

HDR, or high dynamic range was one of the techniques that TV manufacturers at CES early this year forward moved to peddle high-end appliances. These TVs are able to provide a wider dynamic range weather; they give highlights local weather with particularly high brightness, with local dimming with many zones leads to a big contrast between eg shadows and bright light.

Netflix called HDR beginning of the year more important than 4k, but when Netflix HDR support rolls out, is not yet known.
