AMD announced the FirePro S9300 X2. This accelerator card for high performance computing is built around two Fiji GPUs, like the Radeon Pro AMD announced mid of March.

The FirePro S9300 X2 focuses on applications where single precision calculations are necessary. AMD cites, neural networks and machine learning, as well as applications for geosciences such as processing of seismic data. These are areas where fp32- or fp16 calculations are the main focus. The new FirePro-FP32 offers a computing power of 13,9tflops.

In double precision arithmetic, the FirePro S9300 X2 must be answerable to other current hpc cards, due to the use of the Fiji GPUs, developed for graphics cards. With an fp64-power of the S9300 0,8tflops X2 is at the level of the S9000 in 2012.

A memory amount of two times 4GB is also little for a HPC-card, but thanks to the use of high bandwidth memory in conjunction with the memory bus of 4096 bits wide is twice the total bandwidth 1TB / s.

The FirePro S9300 X2 thus takes a specific position at AMD’s FirePro S-line data center maps, like the Radeon Pro does the market for graphics cards. AMD can achieve higher margins than those for card Fri purposes: the company charges $ 5999 for the card.
