AMD brings GPU in 2017. Vega with hbm2 out

AMD has a glimpse at his roadmap GPUs given during the GDC in San Francisco. After the Polaris generation that still appear this year, the chip generation is codenamed Vega in 2017, followed by Navi in 2018. Vega has high bandwidth memory 2.

AMD demonstrated the roadmap shortly Capsaicin during his presentation at GDC for game developers. The roadmap reiterates the manufacturer to the next Polaris architecture 2.5 times the performance per watt needs to make the previous generation. New on the roadmap, the Vega-architecture, which should appear as early as next year. Here AMD explicitly mentions the presence of hbm2, indicating that the video cards with Polaris GPU still will not have this high bandwidth memory of the second generation.

Last week published the rumor that comes next is a card from Nvidia with Pascal GPU with gddr5x rather hbm2. Samsung’s mass production of hbm2 early this year began , but it seems that there is therefore still time to wait on the first card with fast memory.

The roadmap is Vega moreover near Polaris. Maybe Vega is a variant of Polaris with hbm2 that can deliver AMD relatively quickly, possibly even the end of 2016 or early 2017. In 2018 then appear Navi, a new architecture that AMD as “scalable” defines and which should be combined with memories of a new generation. Details on Vega and Navi AMD made further unknown.

The roadmap was part of a presentation on the difficulties that, AMD titled, immersive era ‘will bring GPU manufacturers and game developers. For proper display of virtual reality and photorealistic images, the combination of GPU and engineering process considerably more megapixels per second, providing the company.
