AMD introduces Radeon R9 380X

AMD has the Radeon R9 380X introduced. The video card uses the same GPU as the R9 380, but has more stream processors. The 380X will fall with a price of 260 euros between R9 380 and R9 390.

The Radeon R9 380X will have access to an Antigua XT GPU, which is also known as Tonga. The GPU 32 can make use of compute units, which gives a total of 2048 stream processors. The clock speed of the GPU is at least 970MHz, but of course manufacturers are free to produce their own overclocked versions of the card.

The GDDR5 memory is 4GB in size and communicates via a 256-bit wide bus. The clock rate of the main memory is, in any case, 1425MHz, but of course there are also manufacturers that will increase the speed of the working memory. The video card’s TDP is 190 watts, so the board can be powered using two PEG6 power terminals.

The suggested retail price for a non-overclocked R9 380X is 260 euros, while AMD overclocked versions of the 380X resists a suggested retail price of 272 euros. Tweakers has R9 380X overclocked XFX already tested. From this it appears that the benchmarks 380X about nine percent faster than the R9 380.
