AMD makes Ryzen-soc with Vega-gpu and 8GB gddr5

AMD supplies a semi-custom-soc to the Chinese manufacturer Zhongshan Subor, who is going to make a game PC and console. The soc consists of a Ryzen quadcore combined with a Vega-gpu with 24 compute units and 8GB gddr5 memory.

Subor game PC Jack Huynh, CEO of AMD’s business unit that makes semi-custom products, gives the details about the soc in a forum topic on the AMD website . It is a chip that contains both a processor, gpu and memory. This makes the new soc on the laptop chip that AMD makes with Intel . It combines an Intel processor with a Vega-gpu and hbm2. AMD does not publish all specifications. For example, it is not clear what the tdp is and what the turbo speed of the processor and gpu is.

The Vega-gpu in the AMD-soc may be similar to that in Intel’s Kaby Lake G processor. It is a variant with 24 compute units, but with a higher clock speed than with the Intel processors.

According to AMD, the Chinese manufacturer has already demonstrated its game PC based on the soc and the computer should be released in China at the end of August. Subor also plans to create a game console with the same hardware, but with its own operating system. That console should come out at the end of 2018.

AMD also makes semi-custom-socs for Sony and Microsoft. Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have AMD hardware. The socs in these consoles are still based on the old Jaguar cpu architecture and the Radeon architecture for video cards.
