AMD open source tools for game development online
AMD has launched a website for its GPUOpen initiative. The website puts the company under an open source license includes the SDK and libraries for its graphics cards. This AMD will compete with Nvidia’s Gameworks.
AMD has announced it GPUOpen is divided into two groups. There is the ‘Games & CGI’ section which includes the SDK and libraries represent AMD’s video cards. Also, there is the ‘Professional Compute’ section. It contains applications, tools and libraries for developers of high-performance GPU computing.
Much of the software that AMD has put online is free to use under the open license. According to the additional license files will be given permission to make free use of the software. It is also allowed to copy the software, modify and sell. The only condition it is that the license information is present in all copies and components of the software are issued.
AMD had already announced to start GPUOpen. Through the website to access the software. For example, it comes to effects such TressFX and ShadowFX, but also platforms such LiquidVR for virtual reality development. With the release of the software and source code AMD hopes that as the tools and SDKs be further developed and used in projects of third parties.
