AMD releases Radeon RX 590 video card with 12nm gpu

AMD has announced the Radeon RX 590. The video card is based on an improved Polaris gpu, which is made at 12nm instead of 14nm. The clock speed is higher than with the RX 580 and the consumption is also higher.

In almost all respects, the Radeon RX 590 is the same as the RX 580, which in turn is a refresh of the RX 480. The gpu still has 2304 stream processors, but because the gpu is now being baked at 12nm, it can be increased clocked. AMD gives a clock speed of 1469MHz with a boost speed of 1545MHz. The maximum speed on paper is fifteen percent higher than that of its predecessor.

A review by Tweakers shows that the RX 590 in games is about five to ten percent faster than the RX 580. The higher clock speed also ensures higher consumption under load; the RX 590 uses more than 13 percent more.

AMD gives the RX 590 a suggested retail price of $ 279. That is $ 50 more than the introductory price of the RX 580. Asus, Sapphire, XFX and PowerColor all release an RX 590 video card. AMD bundles the card for promotion with three games coming out next year: Devil May Cry 5, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and Resident Evil 2.
