AMD Unveils Zen cores and deletes x86 ARM project
AMD has released details about the next generation of Zen cores. In addition, the company pulls the plug Skybridge project, which the manufacturer x86 APUs wanted to combine with ARM cores. Furthermore, AMD confirmed the advent of graphics cards with high memory bandwidth.
Zen is the new architecture for high-end processors in AMD’s FX line, equipped with the new cores in 2016. It is a completely new design which will ensure that 40 percent more instructions per clock tick can be handled than the current Excavator cores can. The throughput should increase considerably by what AMD calls Simultaneous Multithreading, which roughly equates to what Intel’s HyperThreading.
AMD FX processors with Zen-cores have the AM4 platform with the next generation desktop APUs in the A series will share and two chip generations should appear in 2016. The chips will be built on a FinFET-process, which will bring benefits in terms of efficiency itself.

The unveiling of the Zen architecture happened one analyst presentation in which the future of AMD were explained in detail. AMD will invest less in low-end PCs, tablets and smartphones and more on gaming, data centers and embedded chips and custom targeting.
The development of ARM cores remains on the roadmap, but Project Skybridge must step down. For this project wanted to AMD ARM A57 cores combine with Puma + -cores and a GCN GPU but based on feedback from the market scrapped the plans, said AMD CEO Lisa Su.
