Android is accused of monopolizing the market

Microsoft, Nokia, Oracle and several other companies have formed a consortium and submitted a complaint to the European Commission, which accused Google of anti-competitive ideology it promotes through its mobile operating system Android. Seventeen companies, some of which are old and Google partners like Oracle, Expedia and TripAdvisor decided to form a single committee FairSearch and express their resentment of the fact that the search giant is completely dominant in many sectors of the market.

The latest complaint and indicated that the growing Android mobile platform from Google dominates the mobile sector of the market only because of the nature of open source (read: free) and support for such top players in the market like Samsung .

According to reports by market research firm Strategy Analytics in 2012, the share of the Android operating system accounted for 70 per cent of the total market. And eMarketer reports showed that the share of Google has already 96 per cent from all search queries from mobile platforms.

FairSearch says Google brazenly monopolize the market by offering Android for free, but instead of requiring the installation of a number of its own (that is, from the very Google) applications and products, such as Maps, YouTube or Google Play. The consortium believes that such conduct creates “problems for other providers” and describes the policy of Google «predatory.”

In fairness it should be noted that on other mobile platforms are also present and Maps, and YouTube, and Google Play, or users have access to similar applications in functionality, so take the same App Store from Apple or Windows Phone Store Microsoft left out of the language as- it does not turn.

But FairSearch not let up and continue to stick to their line:

Google is using its Android operating system in the devices of their partners as a “Trojan horse”, monopolizing the mobile market sphere and thus controlling user information – Vinh says Thomas, advisor educated in Brussels coalition FairSearch.

We ask the Commission to move fast to protect the concept of the spirit of competition and innovation in such a critical market for all. The absence of any measures it may be reassuring sign for Google to continue the expansion and domination, because it is basic and ever-growing share of buyers often chooses Android.
