Anne Frank’s diary is despite online copyright dispute

A French researcher has the diary of Anne Frank put on January 1 in different formats online because he believes that the copyright has expired on the text. The Anne Frank Fonds disputes this and said to take more legal action against publication.

The researcher Olivier Ertzscheid, professor Information Sciences at the University of Nantes, the Dutch text of the diary of Anne Frank in .txt, .doc and epub formats online put. He claims this to be in its right as according to European legislation expires copyright texts seventy years after the death of the author, with effect from the first day of the following year. As Anne Frank in 1945 in Bergen-Belsen death, the text would say, 1 January may be freely put online.

The Anne Frank Fonds, a Swiss foundation created in 1963 by Anne Frank’s father, Otto Frank, denies however that the copyright has expired. The foundation manages the copyright to the text and believes that Otto Frank is co-author of the book because he has had a fundamental influence on the text as published. Otto Frank died in 1980 and the Fund would therefore have copyright owned until 2050. Otto Frank arranged the two parts of the diary that Anne Frank wrote what became The Secret Annex.

A second foundation, the Anne Frank Foundation, which is located in Amsterdam, including the Anne Frank House manages, emphasized that Otto Frank did not co-author of the original diary writings. Why would some parts of the texts until 2037 copyright remains rest because these passages until 1985 in the scientific edition of the diaries of Anne Frank by the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation, NIOD presently, were published. The Anne Frank House is itself legally at odds with the Anne Frank Foundation because the foundation of scientific research into the texts and act according to the Fund breaks copyrights.
