TechCrunch reported that Apple acquired a French startup , Regaind , a computer vision specialist.

“Apple buys small technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our goals and plans,” he said, referring to Abel, who was investigating the acquisition.

According to TechCrunch, Apple acquired Regand earlier this year and specializes in computer vision to analyze image content, so Apple is believed to benefit from its smart search experience that it added two years ago to the application Images on iPhone.

For intelligent searching of images, such as typing “sunset” to show all images with a sunset, Apple analyzes the image library while the user sleeps, so that the image application scans all images and analyzes their content.

Regand’s technology is more advanced, as it is able to know the technical qualities of images, such as automatically selecting the best image from several images of the same scene. The technique also has the ability to analyze the face to determine the gender, age and feelings of the person.

Apple is believed to benefit from Regand’s ability to improve Memories in the Photos application, where OS creates albums based on events, locations, and more.
