Apple considering device to personalize all in package

Apple has devised a technique by which a device can be personalized while it is still in its packaging. The company has applied for a patent on the technology, but it is unclear whether that will ever find its way into a product.

The discovery of an Apple user must be existing device – such as an iPhone – tapping at a certain point on the package, which the personalization is performed. That reports Patently Apple. The patent makes no mention of the technology used, but it is obvious that it is nfc with bluetooth, bluetooth with low-energy is most likely. Apple would want to put devices in the package in an efficient mode to accept the connection.

Google has been offering the possibility to take over devices settings by tapping an Android device to another device, though you can see it only when the device is out of the package. It is unclear whether Apple is also planning to transfer settings, or whether it just comes to personalization, where the user is greeted with setting up the device.

Although Apple has a patent pending on the technology, it does not mean that the company intends to quickly integrate the technology; companies often ask for patents on technologies they ultimately never use. What is certain is that the Apple Watch, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus would be suitable for the new technology: devices that have an NFC chip on board, although it is now only used for Apple Pay.
