Apple: iTunes was a few years ago ‘totally hacked’




In the period around 2008 was iTunes’ totally hacked. It has a top executive of Apple said in a testimony in a lawsuit. Apple has in that period music that users had not purchased on iTunes from iPods.

Apple became convinced that iTunes was totally hacked by the hacks of among others the Norwegian DVD Jon says Apple’s head of security Augustin Farrugia in testimony in a lawsuit about iPods, writes business newspaper The Wall Street Journal. DVD Jon had included the cracked copy of tracks in iTunes.

To avoid hacks, Apple took controversial measures. As iTunes gave an error when syncing with iPod users as music on their mp3 player wanted to put that was purchased by an entity other than Apple’s own music store. Then, the only option was a reset, after which the music was gone. So users could not get music from other services on iPods.

Because of this measure, Apple may have to pay damages to users. The complainants ask converted 284 million, but under US law would amount three times can be high, because Apple has impeded competition.
