Apple products are planning to sell in the Crimea to bypass sanctions

Leading analyst Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin said that Apple products will still be sold on the peninsula, despite the ban on distributors. Earlier it was reported that the company sent a letter to its partners , which asked them to sign a notice of termination of work on the peninsula with the February 1, 2015.

According to him, Russian retailers will resell gadgets intermediaries, and they, in turn, – the Crimean retailers. Such a scheme is legitimate, but substantially increases the final cost of production. However, this may increase the cost of iPhone, iPad and Mac to 10-20%.

In the Crimea working mostly small retailers, who are now switch to buying products from companies from Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don, Murtazin said. In most Apple declined to comment. Russian mobile operators said they did not conduct operations on the territory of Crimea.

In dispatch retailers Apple refers to the section “Obligations in relation to exports” agreement with the dealer. “On February 1, 2015 in accordance with new sanctions against Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the US government’s December 19, 2014, you agree not to sell Apple products, and not to provide services related to Apple products on the peninsula,” the letter said. The company asked to sign a copy of the agreement and send it to the Russian office.

Apple is not the first company that is forced to stop work in the Crimea because of the embargo, which US President Barack Obama imposed in respect of the peninsula.
