Apple Watch made a new leader in the OLED market

High sales of Apple Watch allowed LG to become the largest supplier of OLED-displays for smart watches, ahead of Samsung. This is reported by the research company IHS Markit.

It is reported that LG Display shipped more than 10.5 million AMOLED displays for smart watches, which allowed it to increase its share to 41.4%. In second place is Samsung Display (8.95 million, 34.8%). Despite the fact that Samsung releases its own smart watch, they are not even close to selling Apple Watch, and LG is the leading supplier of the company from Cupertino.

Earlier it became known that Apple intends to start producing displays for future Apple Watch itself, abandoning the services of partners. According to reports, the company already has a secret company in California, whose facilities will launch production of MicroLED-matrices. At the moment, the work on the MicroLED-displays is handled by a team of 300 engineers, which is based in Santa Clara, right next to the Apple Park campus.

Therefore, very soon Apple can refuse the services of LG Display, and the latter will only have to produce displays for smart watches from other manufacturers. On the other hand, screens will be needed for the iPhone X Plus .
