Ark-makers unveil new mmo Atlas that will be in Early Access from 13 December

Ark: Survival Evolved developer Studio Wildcard has unveiled Atlas. The new game is a pirate-themed mmo and can be found on Steam Early Access from Thursday 13 December. From next year, the game also comes to Xbox Game Preview.

Unlike Ark, Atlas becomes a third-person game. About the game is a fat fantasy sauce poured and according to the makers, up to 40,000 players can travel around the same globe at the same time. Just like Ark, it is important to enter into alliances with players, build forts, make ships and compete with other groups of players who do the same. What is new, however, is the possibility of giving fleets with ships commands in sea battles. It seems that these ships are then manned by non-player characters , but that is not entirely clear.

According to Eurogamer, Atlas was accidentally unveiled a while ago when the studio put a trailer online. That was soon put black again and the studio kept the lips tightly together, until last Friday.

The game is being developed in real life by Grapeshot Games, a new studio set up by the Ark makers. This is partly made up of employees who have worked on Ark and the creative directors and founders of Studio Wildcard are simultaneously working on Ark and Atlas.

The previous known game from the studio, Ark: Survival Evolved , also started as an Early Access game, in 2015. There, the game continued until the release on August 29 of 2017. Ark still gets new content in the form of dlc.

What Atlas is going to cost is not yet known.
