Artificial brain could become a reality by mid-century

Whatever wild at first glance, this idea may seem, 40 years later neurons made from nanomaterials may enable a person to survive the most terrible accident – and this is the minimum. As a maximum, will provide some exciting new capabilities. Everything you were afraid to say out loud: a photographic memory, the memory of generations, and no immediate way of thinking “I shut the door?”.

Researchers from the Viterbi School engineers have created a working synapse using neurons made from carbon nanotubes. In their tests sinapsovye scheme performs nearly the same as conventional biological neurons.

Of course, the duplication of synapses in the schemes of nanotubes does not mean that scientists are willing to replace the human brain, but the new interdisciplinary research center at MIT aims to answer to the mystery of the mind, and thus help the newly-fledged technology evolve into something more.

Researchers from the Institute of Peace for a better 2013 year, MIT, hoping to get a better understanding of how the brain generates intelligence, and how we can build machines that can think the same way as we do.

By the end of 2020 should be completed as a powerful incentive Blue Brain , which will allow scientists to recreate the brain in the car. This is the first step towards the creation of computers, which tries to surpass the human brain – so, anyway, says Ray Kurzweil.

“The key lies in decoding and simulation of the cerebral cortex, the source of knowledge,” – says futurist. – “In the cerebral cortex about 22 billion neurons and 220 trillion synapses.”

Today computers can handle this amount of data that does not exist yet, but IBM experts believe that supercomputers with increased computing capabilities and storage capacity that can handle these data will be available within three years.

Nanoengineering John Birch in his blog predicts that advances in the field of molecular nanotechnology will one day allow us to replace damaged brain cells resistant nanomaterials that process thoughts faster than our own brains.

“The new brain will include a replica of the structure and personality, which was to convert” – says Birch. However, it will run much faster and increase our memory a thousand times. We could even control the speed of thinking, moving from 100 milliseconds (RTT modern brain) to 50 nanoseconds, which is millions of times faster.

Creating high thinking could slow all around, at least so it would seem our consciousness. Our perception would be accelerated, but the activity seemed to slow. Events that take minutes in our mind flew to in seconds. No more panic in emergencies with all the consequences .

Birch says it is as if we have moved to a new brain. Daily pill would supply nanomaterials and instructions for nanobots that would form new neurons and their disposal would be next to the existing brain cells in need of replacement. These changes will be invisible to us, but within six months to grow new brain.

Our artificial brain would provide a wireless connection to computers and other technologies. We could access the internet, control electronics, and make phone calls, just thinking about it. In addition, one could understand complex topics and speak a new language without having to learn.

The most important advantage of our new brain would be its ability to survive the crash. If we suffered in an accident, our body would be completely lost, but nanorobots would have saved our brain in case of damage. Then the information would fall to a processing center where it would be recreated each new body identical to our old. Once the brain is important.

Accident victim “woke up” would not even knowing that she died. Biological brains die within a few minutes after cardiac arrest, but our new brain just shuts down and will wait for a new power supply.

Experts predict that the technology could be available by mid-century, in 2050. Also, it is believed that we will be “a little less people,” ie cyborgs. It is bad or not – you decide: it’s just inevitable. Proponents explain that we already use glasses, false teeth, titanium plates, cochlear implants and prostheses. Artificial brains and body clones, which will be the next stage in the 21st century high-tech will make our lives safer and more enjoyable.

Note issue. Personally, I’m not going to die, since I was lucky to be born and live in the 21st century. We were lucky because we were born and even when it is too late to explore the Earth and too early to explore space, but there is little opportunity to defer parting with the planet. And you?
