Astronauts on the ISS gathered fit for human harvest lettuce Space (video)




The crew of the 44th expedition to the International Space Station the harvest grown in the station red lettuce, which is remarkable in that the first astronauts to use it for food. Previously, all grown in orbit plants used exclusively for research purposes. Half of the harvest goes into the food, and the other half will be frozen and sent to the earth for scientific analysis. Lettuce was grown within 01 Veg-experience in a special setting with Veggie simulated microgravity, entirely under artificial lighting. In the future, NASA plans to use a similar setup for growing food in the conditions of long-term space flights and to create the future bases beyond Earth. Including within the framework of the planned Mars mission.
