Astronomers have found one of the biggest black holes in the universe
International team of astronomers thanks Cosmic X-ray Observatory “Chandra” and other telescopes forces conducted a study of one of the largest ever discovered black holes . According to scientists, the hole is surrounded by a huge amount of gas and dust clouds, which in turn made it impossible to form trillions of stars.
Supergiant black hole is located inside the galaxy cluster RX J1532.9 +3021, which in turn is 4 billion light years from Earth. Preview this area, which you can see above, was obtained through the joint work of the Cosmic X-ray Observatory and the Space Telescope “Hubble”.
According to experts, the weight of a supermassive black hole reaches quadrillion mass of our Sun. The facility is located within a large elliptical galaxy, which in turn is located almost in the center of galaxy clusters.
On the basis of the data obtained with the “Chandra” and the radio telescope Very Large Array, owned by U.S. National Science Foundation, researchers found that black hole creates two massive cavity in a layer surrounding the giant gas clouds.
These cavities are far beyond the elliptical galaxy and thereby interfere with the process of star formation in the center of the cluster. Lack of star formation just attracted the attention of astronomers to the system RX J1532.9 +3021. They have long been trying to understand what prevents the emergence of young stars.
Research shows that the black hole creates shock waves similar vibrations passing through the gas and scatter it in different directions. The result of this phenomenon was the creation of just cavities, the length of which is about 100,000 light-years, which is comparable to the size of our own Milky Way galaxy.
Work was carried out a team of experts from Stanford University under the direction of Julia Hlovachek-Lorrado. Detailed results were published 10 November 2013 , in the scientific journal Astrophysical Journal.
Scientists report that they were interested in another interesting feature of this black hole. The point is that it is not practically emit X-rays. This can be explained by the fact that extremely large black holes may emit very powerful relativistic jets and thus absorb very little matter.
