Asus shows ROG Mothership with 17.3 “screen, kickstand and removable keyboard

Asus has unveiled the ROG Mothership, a 17.3 “gaming laptop that serves as a desktop replacement, the laptop is placed vertically with a kickstand, as if it were an all-in-one, and the fold-out and detachable keyboard also serves as display protection.

The Asus ROG Mothership, or the GZ700, according to Asus is a new type of desktop replacement intended for gamers. When the ROG Mothership is collapsed, it is a big, washed out gamelaptop. Preparing the setup can be done by first folding out and dismounting the keyboard that is over the screen. Users can then position the screen section, which includes all the hardware, vertically with the corresponding kickstand.

This kick position automatically folds out at the bottom of the computer according to Asus, as soon as the position touches a surface. Users can use the keyboard wirelessly with a 2.4 GHz connection, but it can also be left with magnets on the screen section. To save space, the keyboard is collapsible; when the ROG Mothership is completely folded up, the keyboard covers the entire front. Thanks to this upright design, the grilles for sucking in air and removing hot air are higher than normal and the loudspeakers are directly under the screen.

The GZ700 has a Realtek 2.5G Ethernet controller which, according to Asus, ensures twice the speed compared to standard Ethernet connections. Furthermore, the laptop contains an Intel Wi-fi 6 AX200 chip with which the bandwidth can theoretically rise to 2.4Gbit / s.
