Asus unveils 4k monitor with 144Hz, local dimming and high brightness for hdr

Asus has introduced the ROG Swift PG27UQ. The 27 “monitor has a 4k resolution, a refresh rate of 144Hz, full array local dimming and a brightness of 1000cd / m², and support for G-Sync HDR.

The PG27UQ is a 27 “monitor with an ips panel and a DisplayHDR 1000 certification, which is certified by the VESA and means that the maximum peak brightness is 1000cd / m². Without HDR display the maximum brightness is 300cd. / m².

In addition, compliance with this highest DisplayHDR standard requires that the monitor has a 10-bit screen and can display at least 90 percent of dci-p3 color space. The color reproduction is further improved by the application of quantum dots. The screen has G-Sync HDR, although it is not clear between which refresh rate values G-Sync can actually be switched on. G-Sync HDR is a combination of Nvidia’s G-Sync and hdr10 support; it is the counterpart of AMD’s FreeSync 2.

According to Asus, the screen offers high contrast and good HDR reproduction. This ensures, among other things, the high maximum brightness of 1000cd / m², the specified minimum brightness of 0.05cd / m² and the fact that the screen has fald in the form of 384 different individual zones whose LED backlight can be switched off dynamically. The contrast ratio without hdr is 1000: 1, but according to Asus this ratio for hdr is 20,000: 1. The response time is 4ms. Asus does not specify which displayport version is supported in the specifications, but probably it is version 1.4, which means that in 4k the refresh rate does not exceed 120Hz, while the screen supports up to 144Hz.

Asus has not yet announced official pricing, but the monitor competes with the comparable Acer Predator X27 , which can be reserved for $ 2000 in the United States. Probably the PG27UQ also costs at least $ 2000.
