Backblaze: four in ten 3TB drives Seagate fall




More than four in ten copies of the Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 with a capacity of 3TB fall at cloud provider Backblaze. Other hard drives from Seagate and drives from other manufacturers exhibiting at the provider less defects.

Backblaze has 1163 copies of Barracuda 7200.14 stand in its data centers, is evident from the data . The disks are on average less than 2.5 years old, but still showed 43 percent of those defects. Only the Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB went with many piece, in 23.5 percent of cases.

The company reported earlier that there were problems with the drives from Seagate, but then the failure rate around 15 percent. This has now risen to over 40 percent. Because BackBlaze many disks has listed in its data centers, the figures as BackBlaze give an indication of the durability of the disks.

Backblaze does little to say about the performance of 6TB drives that took the company recently. For example, only a few of the Red Western Digital 6TB drives fail, even though there are 270 in operation.
