Banks want to introduce real-time payments within four years
The Dutch banks want to structure payments within four years that transactions can be executed in real time. For example, payments within a few seconds, and another account.
The banks have the ambition expressed in the so-called MOB which various parties, including interest for consumers and businesses. According to the Dutch bank applies a real-time payment to the increasing digitalisation of society in which businesses and citizens will be able to pay immediately.
According to the bank transactions must within the next four years, 24 hours a day can be done immediately and processed, including holidays and weekends. Currently, this is not possible because transactions between different banks go through a system of European Central Bank. This system is needed to allow banks themselves to offset the cost, but 110 days a year there is no access. Especially Dutch merchants complain about.
In order to enable the real-time system, the banks for special Netherlands build a new infrastructure. Many details on this are not yet known, but the so-called Payments Association Netherlands to take in charge of directing the project. In the second half of this year, plans need to be more concrete, including through the establishment of a roadmap.
