Battery with aluminum anode can recharge in a minute




Researchers at Stanford University have developed a battery designed on the basis of aluminum in place of lithium that can load quickly, has a long life and can be produced cheaply.

The research is in the advance online -uitgave of Nature. The battery consists of an anode of aluminum and a cathode of graphite. For the experimental battery placed Stanfordse the research team, the anode and cathode with a salt solution in a pouch, the battery which also makes a further useful in locations where flexibility is needed. The battery according to the researchers safer than conventional lithium-ion batteries, as these can sometimes catch fire. The battery on the basis of aluminum would do not suffer from this.

But that’s not the only benefit of the battery. The battery could be recharged more than 7,500 times, without sacrificing capacity. A standard Li-ion battery loses after a thousand times its load capacity. The greatest asset is the loading time shown by the team. The gem can be charged within a minute. This version of the battery provides about half of the capacity of a comparable lithium-battery. The battery now provides about two volts.
