Bicycle lock with fingerprint scanner appears on Kickstarter




Two alumni of the University of Waterloo have developed a biometric lock. The Grasp is equipped with a fingerprint scanner and users can add their fingerprint using an app. On Kickstarter creators raise money for the production.

The metal lock is equipped with a fingerprint scanner and once the user it imposes his finger, the Grasp quickly to be pushed a bicycle. The metal is finished with a soft plastic, which should prevent damage to bicycles. The electronics are powered by three AAA batteries, which should provide enough energy for one year use.

Who his bike to share with others, can add the fingerprints of up to twenty others through an app. It is also possible to remove it again extra users, or to set the time intervals when others can unlock the lock. If the lock is not able to recognize the user’s fingerprint, then it is possible to unlock the Grasp via Bluetooth.

Sarbjeet Singh and Samson Berhane are the originators of the Grasp. The makers have worked for four months in China with different prototypes and want to bring your castle on the market. They have $ 75,000 for necessary and that they try to pick up with crowdfunding. Early Bird backers get the Grasp Lock for a commitment of $ 99, plus shipping of $ 25. The regular Kickstarter price is $ 129, the retail price will amount to 159 dollars later.
