BitTorrent brings open beta of peer-to-peer browser out




BitTorrent on Friday the first open beta released a decentralized browser based on the same protocol. The browser Project Maelstrom, preliminary works only on Windows. Mac and Linux versions are in the pipeline.

BitTorrent, the company behind the eponymous protocol and the BitTorrent client, announced in December to the local browser. The developers want the new browser build a ‘new internet’ and an alternative form http.

BitTorrent claims to have about 10,000 developers behind after the announcement in December. Here come another 3,500 publishers in which to examine how they can make use of this ‘new internet’. Among the interested rally further technicians, academics and researchers, said the company in a blog post.

Besides the release of the first test version has been published BitTorrent also tools for developers. In this way, they can make use of the technology behind the browser. One of the tools is a Python script that static web files turnover in optimized torrents. That script is published on GitHub.
