Black Hat visitor survey: 73 percent expect serious data breach within a year
A survey that was held at the Black Hat security conference shows that large enterprises security budgets assigned to the wrong threats. Also, 73 percent of respondents believe their organization will be within a year, victim of a serious data breach.
The survey was completed in July by 460 members of the American Black Hat conference. The questions were about the attitudes and plans of the security industry. The results were presented Friday at Black Hat Europe. Of those surveyed 64 percent as a security professional with a company of a thousand employees or greater. Many are in possession of advanced certificates in the field of security. One of the main outcomes of the study is that large companies do not often allocate their budgets to the threats that are seen as serious by the security professionals. In the ranking of these threats are targeted attacks, phishing and social engineering top.
However, if we look at the daily activities most of time this troubleshooting through software vulnerabilities of their own company or in third party products. It also shows that more than half of the respondents indicated not having enough resources to counter current threats. This while 73 percent think their organization in the next year will be a victim of a serious data breach.
