Website Player Attack discovered that Blizzard on 8 April, the brand Overwatch recorded at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The brand name is for a game that can be downloaded or sold on disk and derived products as headsets, mice and keyboards. Blizzard has not yet announced any game under the brand name and the registration with the USPTO says little. It does not mean that Blizzard has a game under the title Overwatch into production.
The name suggests that it is an independent game and no expansion of existing games like World of Warcraft, StarCraft II and Diablo III. It is also unlikely that the title will be used for the new MMOG that Blizzard has put into production, hitherto known as Titan used. The studio would be the name to use for a new and unannounced small project. There has in recent years gained experience. Both Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Heroes of the Storm were made by a team of less than 20 employees.
There were already signs that Blizzard has at least one unannounced game production. As announced Jay Wilson, head of the Diablo III development team, in early 2013 that he got another job within Blizzard, which has nothing to do with Diablo. Where Wilson works is unknown. Furthermore, Blizzard made in May 2013 announced that Mike Booth has taken until then head of the team at Turtle Rock Studios was responsible for Left 4 Dead in service. Booth is within Blizzard at the head of a small team working on an unannounced game.
