Blizzard reports that large Overwatch patch requires reinstallation

The upcoming Overwatch patch is so extensive that a reinstallation of the game is required. The patch is for the game client and will implement many changes in the backend. It is not yet known when the patch comes out.

Drakuloth, an employee of Blizzards customer service, posted a message about the patch on the Overwatch forum. In this he assures the players that they are informed in time of the appearance of the patch.

“The number of changes to the backend that we are going to implement is so great that we can not patch the current content efficiently, so the client will automatically reinstall to be able to handle these changes”, Drakuloth reports about the reinstallation required.

In an e-mail to Kotaku , Blizzard responds that the patch, in addition to the backend changes, should also optimize the loading time for older or less powerful PCs and reduce the space that the game occupies on the PlayStation 4 hard drive. The development team claims that PC players who have the public test server version of Overwatch experience a ‘much shorter’ installation time of the game.
