BMW develops street with charging points for electric cars




Carmaker BMW develops lampposts that could be used for charging electric cars simultaneously. The project should be rolled out as a pilot in Munich in 2015. The extra charging points must be suitable for all electric cars.

The current lamp may remain in use, as reported Reuters. BMW will equip existing light poles with suitable outlets. It is according to the company is essential that the charging facilities for electric cars in order to finally get more of such vehicles on the road. All road users have access to an electric car should be able to use the extra charging points, regardless of brand.

BMW already has two Light and Charge -palen developed. They are placed to the headquarters of the German carmaker. LED lamps are combined with ChargeNow -oplaadstations of the company. Exactly how that works or how it will look like, is still unknown. It is clear that motorists in exchange for an undisclosed amount to charge their electric vehicle. Must be paid via an app.

ChargeNow is part of ChargePoint , that the largest charging network for electric vehicles claims to be. The organization would be worldwide over nineteen thousand charging points available. Through special ChargeNow cards drivers to easily access the connected charging stations.

The project should be rolled out in 2015. Munich is the first city where the Light and Charge-stakes testing. Nothing is reported about cities that might follow.
