BMW wants batteries of electric i3-car use for home use

Carmaker BMW announced that the batteries of the i3 also wants to use for energy by consumers at home and in business. Not only new, but also in cars used batteries could be used in the battery system.

The current BMW i3 uses a 22kWh battery system, but this summer there will appear a new 33kWh version. Batteries of both BMW wants to apply for energy storage in home and businesses. The batteries can be used, for example, for the storage of solar energy reprocessed at the time when it is not used.

The system is similar to the Power Wall Tesla; BMW, however, says he used that exact same battery system as the first manufacturer in his electric car. This should make it possible to give a second life batteries. BMW suggested that owners of the i3 in this way themselves can continue using their batteries, even if they are no longer in the car.

The battery systems that want to use BMW for home use have a much larger capacity than the alternative of Tesla, which is available in versions of 10kWh and 7kWh. In Dutch and Belgian standards of the BMW 22kWh battery would be able to provide an average household more than two days of flow.
