Beer is one of the oldest beverages. His appearance dates from the time when people began to grow crops – a few thousand years before Christ. To date, the beer – the third most popular drink after water and tea. Recently, the mass popularity of the so-called “live” beer, which is not only very tasty, but also a small shelf life. Shelf life of individual beers be weeks or days. But there are unique instances that, once in the result of a shipwreck at the bottom of the Baltic Sea, is kept there for a very long time.

Quite soon the true connoisseurs of the most popular alcoholic beverage in the world will have a unique opportunity to try beers that lay among the wreckage wreck about 170 years. Thanks to modern technology the ancient beer will gain a new life.

In 2010, the wreckage of the vessel, presumably sunk in the Åland archipelago in the south-western Finland, in 1840, deep sea explorers got 5 bottles of one of the oldest surviving malt beverages in the world. Complete darkness inside the sunken ship and the low temperature of the water at a depth of 50 meters provided the ideal storage conditions of beer. A pressure inside the glass bottles are not allowed salt water to penetrate through the cork inside.

Fortunately beer drinkers, no member of the rescue teams decided not to open a bottle found to celebrate the valuable find, which also included a lot of old bottles of champagne. All found on the sunken ship “treasures” owned by the government of Åland (an autonomous region of Finland), which decided to send a portion of the profits from the sale of beer for charity. With the money to be conducted research on the maritime archeology and environmental measures to improve water quality in the sea.
