British parliament is disappointed about Facebook’s answers

to questions about policy
A British parliamentary committee has published Facebook’s answers to 39 questions about topics that Mike Schroepfer, Cto of Facebook, did not fully address during a previous hearing. The committee also finds the new answers insufficient.

The chairman of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee , Damian Collins, says it is disappointing that a company with the financial capabilities of Facebook chooses not to provide complete details and transparency on topics such as Cambridge Analytica, data collection and how much money Russia has spent on British advertisements. According to him there are discrepancies between the testimony of chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer and that of Mark Zuckerberg.

In the letter of answers , Rebecca Stimson, the head of Facebook’s communications department, says that Mark Zuckerberg is not currently planning to meet the committee or travel to the United Kingdom. Collins previously indicated that he wished to oblige Zuckerberg, via a formal order, to appear before the committee .

That requirement has now been weakened; the committee also says it is open to ask further questions to Zuckerberg via a video link. The committee will also submit new follow-up questions to Facebook in the coming days.
