Find a Question:
British scientists published retinal cells
British scientists never cease to amaze us . In recent studies, a group of scientists from the University of Cambridge could print some of the cells of the retina eye , which can be used to treat diseases associated with vision.
As the portal gizmag.com British researchers used an inkjet printer to print two types of cells: glial and ganglion extracted from rat retina hair. These cells provide support and protection for neurons and transmit information to specific parts of the brain. According to the scientists, the printed cells remain healthy and able to survive and grow.
“Our research is the first to show that the cells of the eyes can be printed using a piezoelectric inkjet printer. The results are preliminary, and ahead of us expect a lot of work, our goal is to finalize this technology for retinal regeneration, “- says the study’s authors Keith Martin and Barbara Lorber.
Keith Martin also reports that the printing of the retina – is one of the most difficult jobs in the print human tissue. The main difficulty is that the retina has a special three-dimensional structure, which does not allow her to print layers.
The plans scientists learn typing and other cells of the retina, including the light-sensitive photoreceptors – rods and cones.
