Cabinet: network importantly through collaboration between Vodafone and Ziggo

Providing access to fixed networks of Ziggo and KPN to alternative providers according to the Ministry of Economy has become even more important. This is due to the collaboration between the parent company Ziggo, Liberty Global and Vodafone.

In response to parliamentary questions posed earlier let the ministry know that it all by working to provide competitors access to the fixed network of KPN and Ziggo. This commitment is even more important because of the plans of Vodafone and Liberty Global on their joint venture.

The ministry maintains that two players are not enough in the telecom market. This would then be enough place for competition and innovation. To show yet emerge this is continued access to the networks of KPN and Ziggo need for alternative providers. This should also ensure that continue to innovate the two big players themselves and invest.

Also left the ministry show the hypothetical share of the joint venture Ziggo and Vodafone, as the collaboration did exist in the third quarter of 2015. This is compared with the shares of other telecommunications companies, KPN mainly as a point of comparison. The joint venture, according to the figures a pace similar to KPN, which parts can be competed better. In the field of Internet Ziggo / Vodafone would have a share of 45 to 50 percent, compared to KPN’s 40 to 45 percent. On the mobile market could obtain a share of 25 to 30 percent. KPN continues it will significantly larger, with 45 to 50 percent of market share.

In February, Vodafone and Ziggo announced that they would merge their Dutch divisions in the form of a joint venture. Both companies will have their own half. Liberty Global and Vodafone have not yet reported their plans to the European Commission. Once this is done following a merger test conducted by the Commission or by ACM.
