Canonical provides insight into collected Ubuntu user data via portal
Together with the release of Ubuntu 18.10 Canonical has put a portal online where data can be found that Ubuntu users have voluntarily shared with the organization. The data collected Canonical since February.

The data can be viewed through a separate portal for desktop statistics. Canonical had already published statistics in June, but at the time it was a selection chosen by the organization. Since then, many things have remained the same, such as the opt-in percentage of around 66 percent and the preference for resolutions of 1920×1080 pixels and 1366×768 pixels. There is now more information available, such as hard disk size, partition types, chosen settings, types of installations and language choices. The data is collected since February .

The publication of the data coincides with the release of Ubuntu 18.10, called Cosmic Cuttlefish. It is based on version 4.18 of the Linux kernel and uses Gnome 3.30. There is also a new look in the form of the so-called Yaru theme. According to Canonical, the release also introduces, for example, support for fingerprint unlocking and better performance in games. Finally, 4100 snaps have been published by 1700 developers.
