CBS: Dutch use cloud storage especially for storing pictures




Dutch use cloud storage services primarily for storing photos, followed by documents. Videos and music files are less often stored online, reports CBS. Now uses a third of the Dutch cloud storage services.

According to the CBS, 35 percent of Dutch Internet users aged 12 and older in the past three months using one or more cloud storage services. Especially free services have been popular and especially young people are enthusiastic users, especially because they use more tablets and smartphones. The study shows that saving approximately 90 percent of active Dutch users of cloud storage services pictures on services like Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive. Also documents such as text files and spreadsheets are shared regularly. It is striking that music and video files are much less often placed on cloud services. This is probably caused by the popularity of streaming services like Netflix and Spotify.

Furthermore, the CBS reports that a third of internet users who do not use cloud storage are not aware of the existence of such services. Two out of three of the non-users would be familiar with the concept of cloud computing, but do not use it because of concerns about security and privacy.
