Cheap smartphone and feature phone market in the cold

NEW DELHI: Domestic handset makers to offer cheap models on the strength of smartphone sales in India have more than trebled in the third quarter of 2013 and reached 12.8 million units.

From a feature phone to smartphone market has cooled.

According to research firm IDC, the smartphone market in India in the third quarter of 2013 year-on-year growth rate of 229 percent, up from 12.8 million units reached 38 million units in the third quarter of 2012.

IDC said the other hand, feature phone sales in the third quarter of 2013 was 5.39 million units, 5.57 million in the previous corresponding period, feature phones were sold in the country.

In this way, this year’s third quarter, down from 84 percent in the feature phone market share slipped to 81 percent.

IDC’s research manager for India, Kiran Kumar said,” to put towards consumers smartphones and feature phones due to the difference in price between a smartphone to be less frequent.”
