Cheetah robot can jump racing over obstacles




The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has learned his cheetah robot to jump while running over obstacles. It would be the first robotic quadruped who can jump autonomously with a flight over barricades.

MIT shows in a video how the mechanical cheetah takes the hordes. The institute has previously quadruped equipped with a laser sensor to determine the distance to obstacles and determine the height of the hurdles. The robot will then determine how to set his steps in order to take the plunge at the right time, by putting extra power on his hind legs.

Jumping over obstacles with a height of 40cm does not constitute a problem for the cheetah and even jump the full autonomy over several barriers to the four-legged friend can now. Several organizations are working on four-legged robots, such as Boston Dynamics and the defense arm Darpa
