China is building a new, world’s fastest supercomputer

Now, perhaps, every manufacturer tries to stand out from the others in order to become a leader among the best representatives of the digital age. So that’s Tianhe-2 – a supercomputer originally from China – is going to make this country the most high-tech in the world (at least in the sphere of production superkomyuterov) by selecting the title of the leader Cray Titan .

Professor Jack Dongarra of the University of Tennessee, having been a guest of their overseas counterparts, came back, and report that the processing power of a supercomputer Tianhe-2 is 30.7 petaflops per second. This may seem like science fiction, but the Tianhe-2 is superior American Cray Titan, whose performance is “only” 17.6 petaflops, nearly doubled.

Official testing Tianhe-2 has not yet performed, but many scientists are already confident that Tianhe-2 will take the top spot Top 500 list, which represents the fastest exist (at least in our solar system) supercomputers. The official announcement of the system is scheduled for next week during the event International Supercomputing Conference.

China already had occasion to be in first place of the list. For example, in 2010, he held this position supercomputer Tianhe-1. However, in November last year, the United States submitted a supercomputer that selected the name of the fastest of the existing computer systems.

Launching Chinese supercomputer Tianhe-2 in the National Supercomputer Center will take place by the end of this year. Super system will deal with the modeling and flight simulation test operations related to national security.
