Companies and government agencies begin this year 5g test in Groningen




Ten companies and government organizations are starting this year with testing 5g in North Groningen. The ten signs a covenant in that region, as the only country in Europe have to do tests with the intended successor of 4g.

On behalf of the government are the Ministry of Economic Affairs and represented the Radiocommunications Agency, and the University of Groningen and also draw the Hanze University Groningen. The company KPN, Vodafone, Huawei and Ericsson are there too, as research institute TNO and the Economic Board of Groningen, an organization that has in mind the economic development of the province.

The 5g tests begin this year at the Zernike campus on the north side of the city of Groningen. Later tests will take place in the countryside north of the city. So farmers can, for example in crop disease tracking through 5g.

The companies and organizations were last known to have plans to test around Loppersum in North Groningen. The telecommunications industry is aimed 5g mainly on the reduction of the latency. This should make possible real-time applications, such as the transmission of signals to self-propelled vehicles, which then have to react quickly on that information. Moreover, the rate of 5g must be higher than that of 4g, especially for applications such as virtual reality and video sessions, both of which require high resolutions.

There are many different techniques that have a chance to be part of 5g. For example, it may be an advanced version of the current LTE-advanced, which is indicated by providers as 4g. Also, mobile Internet at much higher frequencies would can be part of 5g, while finally, also LIFI could be part. Users can only after 2022 en masse to 5g, thinking European providers.
