Companies introduce new armed robot helpers
The company Rethink Robotics introduces a one-armed robot ‘Sawyer’ designed to perform well many different repetitive tasks. But that’s not the only news from robot sidekick country. Universal Robots table shows a robot that can help with difficult chores.
Both robots found their way this week to the general public and both consist of only one arm. The robot of the German Universal Robotics is based on industrial robot arms used UR5 and UR10 and therefore in appearance a fairly traditional robot arm. The big difference is that the ‘table robot’ someone can assist with light assembleerwerk to help for example to perform a task that would normally be done by two people. Or think of dispensing the same amount of glue, tighten screws and similar activities. The arm itself weighs 11 kg and can be loaded up to 3 kg. The range is 50 cm and consumes 100 watts. The public can watch the robot on March 23 at the Automate trade show in Chicago.Sawyer is intended more as a robot to function in large assembly lines where the robot arm needs to support in printed circuit board testing, machine control and other repetitive tasks that especially in Asia often still to be done by humans. Sawyer is not the first robot Rethink Robotics . The company was founded in 2008 to develop a robot that can do many tasks well and relatively fast and inexpensive, initially mainly to compete with America Asia where manpower is much cheaper. The first was the scion Baxter . This second robot weighs 19 kg, has a range of more than one meter and should especially be an improvement in the various tasks that can run the device.Viewing:-189
