Company develops projector for virtual reality game room

A French company has developed a projector that can be used to create a virtual reality game room. In addition, the image may disappear that would normally because it is beyond the TV screen, are projected in the rest of the room.

The company behind the project has now Immersis through Kickstarter enough money together gleaned to actually make the product. The device projects images up to 180 degrees horizontally and 120 degrees vertically, so as to provide a more realistic gaming experience, the company promises. Also, the device can be used to show panorama films. The projector has a brightness of 3000 lumens.

The device, which is reminiscent of the Roomalive- concept Microsoft is able to make yourself a scan of the room, so to project the images on the right place. However, the user has to roughly describe his room. It is also possible to create a model file, eg exported from Blender, Maya or Sketchup, load into the projector. Optionally, players can use external hardware to allow the location of the 3D images depend on the position of the head of the player.

The Immersis is only compatible with the PC; OS X support is only done if the creators managed to collect fifteen times as much money. At this time, the projector has support for Unity 3D, so that all games that use those popular engine relatively easy to build support for Immersis. In spite of the game’s developer will first effort to do that. Support for the Unreal Engine and a universal plug-in must come later.

Ultimately, the projector will provide a sound dollar in 2500, converted about 2200 euros, but during the time that the device on Kickstarter is it cheaper, sold. The makers are signs that later versions of the device are likely to perform better than the model that will be sent to Kickstarter subscribers.
